During a traumatic time in my life as I was coping with the onset of an anxiety disorder. I had intrusive thoughts. I couldn't stop thinking things like "I am a piece of shit," "I am a monster," "I am so stupid," etc. To counter these thoughts, I wrote poetry. Out of this came a writing experiment that focuses on the first person plural pronoun "we," and "us." "I am stupid" became "WE are stupid," which was funny and meaningful: If humanity can't be reduced to "stupid," then neither could I.
