Ruffin is an eight year old boy, a third grader. He is the "man of the house", and a great deal of responsibility falls on his shoulders. He often is late returning home from school because he takes the time to help his teacher, a classmate, or a neighbor. Because of this habit, his mother has nicknamed him "Roundabout Boy".
