Alistair Lofthouse had always been interested in trains, in 1979 with school friends he began to zip around the country exploring the British Rail network and doing to odd bit of spotting. He visited Manchester, London, Reading, Doncaster, Swindon, Barry Island, Portsmouth, Peterborough, Birmigham, Derby and even Slough! Starting in 1981, Alistair started taking pictures of some of his travels, looking back at these 30 year old pictures a lot has changed so Alistair decided to put these pictures into a book for posterity!
