In a fairly near future Mankind has grown in every conceivable sense of the word. Drinking water ran short while seas rose. Water became again what it always was - indispensable. Culture, commerce, and expectations shifted to accommodate market rate water. Still, the population grew and the human race needed vastly more fresh water. Entrepreneurs, innovators, industrial interests, and governments collaborated urgently to solve the crisis. Epic creativity led, eventually, to a steady supply of water. Mined from icy celestial sources, it flows reassuringly down the Pearl Highway. What was once a marvel and awe inspiring salvation became routine. During these times, thanks to the boring, repetitive, availability of Space Rain, a new man is caught up in the machinations of venal motivation, bureaucratic morass, corruption, and violence. Billy Jämer leads a team of internal auditors as they unravel a scheme that stretches from steaming cities on Earth to the brothels and mining operations on remote dwarf planets. Romance and danger interact as the wonder of Space Rain is exposed and good prevails, for now, over daunting foes.
