Throughout his life, Charles Dickens had an affection for the theatre and early in his career began writing plays. Collected here in one volume are the plays by Dickens including his early comedies, the libretto for his comic opera, and his latter epic drama in collaboration with Wilkie Collins, along with his unproduced play "The Lamplighter." Dickens the Dramatist contents the plays "The Strange Gentleman" (1836), "The Village Coquettes" (1836), "Is She His Wife?" (1837), "The Lamplighter" (1838), "Mr. Nightingale's Diary" (1851), and "No Thoroughfare" (1867).
