It is the "Roaring Twenties" and Seattle is growing from a timber town into a city. Thomas Kelly is a young Irishman and ex-logger determined to stop the timber industry from destroying rivers and waterways. J. C. Robertson is a brutal timber executive who has built his company on the backs of former loggers and small timber companies.
