If we would have the rest of mankind believe in what we believe in ourselves, then we should place the facts of whatever those beliefs may be in such a clear and candid way, that the veriest sceptic is at least forced to respect such facts. In this argument-which must necessarily be a short one-I shall endeavour to carry out this principle. My experience in this work has taught me that people are only sceptical because they do not know. There may be some, no doubt, who are willing to take things on faith, but the vast majority of mankind must have facts to appeal to their reason and intelligence.
