Recently coined terms such as Web 2.0 and AJAX have become established in the world of modern web development and are enthusiastically received by interested web developers and web users. The increased interest that AJAX is currently enjoying is due to the visually attractive and highly interactive web applications that behave similarly to desktop applications. But what exactly is behind this new catchphrase? This is the question that is explored in this book. It is examined in a simple and comprehensible way whether it is actually a new and "revolutionary" web technology, or whether AJAX is rather a product of already existing and known technologies, which has just been introduced under a new name the current interest in AJAX presented in detail.
