Carpark North | AIR
Carpark North is ready with their first full-length album in almost 8 years
For three years, Carpark North has been in an unstoppable creative space in their studio in Christianshavn. The plan was an album. Creativity wanted more. And now the band is ready to launch the double album 'AIR'.
Carpark North is a band. An electrorock band that has always released albums. Three years ago it seemed like the album format was on its way to extinction. So Lau Højen, Morten Thorhauge and Søren Balsner looked at each other and thought "what do we do now?". As always, there were a thousand ideas floating around, so they chose to focus on the music rather than the format. In collaboration with producer, Søren Christensen, (The Blue Van), they started working with all the ideas. Before long, they could see enough songs on the horizon for an album. But there were still a lot of untested ideas. So Carpark North chose to create a double album in two parts under the name 'AIR'.
The creative process was titled 'AIR' based on what the band explains as: "Air is the invisible bond between us all. The vital substance that surrounds and connects us, and that we all have an equal right to and that gives us life. It is the light and airy – the breeze that embraces. But also the heavy and violent that blows us over. What we pull for when we are upset. And what we take in deeply when we calm down. Sound waves are air that is pushed from a voice, an instrument or a speaker and hits our ear, where it can ultimately evoke enormous emotions and reactions in the receiver and listener."
'AIR – Part I' was released in early 2024 with the single precursor 'If I Were Your King', which went straight into the Top 10 on the airplay chart, and once again manifested Carpark North as the hitmakers they have been in the Danish music landscape for the last 20 years. 'AIR – Part I' was a deep look inward into poetry. In the band's own stories of divorce, death, love and longing. 'Part II' is the band's musical explosion, where they break the framework of what people perceive them to be. It's about deep rave, horror, sex, soul, silence and otherworldly great songs.
With the release of Part I and II, and thus the double album 'AIR', Carpark North completes the circle of their creative process over the past three years. But also invites the listener into their lives over those years. For this double album is probably the most personal the band has released to date.
