Joseph Haydn: 16 Early Keyboard Sonatas Hob. Xvi: 1-16
Chen Xueyuan
This first volume in a projected recording of Haydn’s complete keyboard sonatas presents sixteen concise examples of his early style. Influenced by the northern line of C. P. E. Bach and the southern tradition of Wagenseil, these pieces document a crucial transition from Baroque and galant idioms towards the Classical sonata, while remaining delightful, lucid and often suited to amateur players.
