Frederic Chopin: 24 Preludes Op. 28. Prelude Op. 45. Sonata No. 2. Op. 35
Hsiang Tu
Composed during Chopin’s unhappy stay in Mallorca with George Sand, the 24 Preludes are among his finest achievements and reveal the deep formative presence of Bach. Brief yet complete in themselves, they are joined here by the Second Piano Sonata, whose Funeral March and astonishing final movement turn memory, grief and erasure into one of Chopin’s most compelling dramatic arcs.
