In the Prestige series, Analogue Productions releases rare, audiophile recordings by Rudy Van Gelder that are well worth collecting. Tenor saxophonist Gene Ammons has been one of the label's biggest stars since the 1950s. Whether playing lead or as part of one of the many prestige jam sessions, bluesy "soul jazz" or heartfelt ballads: Ammons mastered them all. And then in 1960, he led the quintet that he formed into Boss Tenor with top-notch pianist Tommy Flanagan and conga player Ray Barretto. Doug Watkins plays bass, and Arthur Taylor contributes drums.

With the heavily blues-soaked Hittin' the Jug and Blue Ammons, the revitalized standards Close Your Eyes and Canadian Sunset, or even the swinging Stompin' at the Savoy, there's something for every jazz listener. We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
