“I Just Dropped By To Say Hello” is a studio album by jazz singer Johnny Hartman; it is the second of three albums the American jazz singer recorded for the Impulse! It was recorded at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, on October 9 and 17, 1963, and followed “John Coltrane And Johnny Hartman,” which had been recorded a few months earlier. Scott Yanow of AllMusic writes: “Hartman is in top form throughout these eleven tracks, including ‘In the Wee Small Hours Of The Morning,’ ‘Sleepin’ Bee,’ ‘Stairway To The Stars,’ and even ‘Charade.’ Tenor saxophonist Illinois Jacquet appears on five of the tracks, guitarists Kenny Burrell and Jim Hall contribute to several tracks, and Hartman is accompanied throughout by pianist Hank Jones, bassist Milt Hinton, and drummer Elvin Jones. This is one of his finest recordings.” The original tapes were meticulously remastered at the Esoteric Mastering Center by producer Jo Yoshida, executive producer Motoaki Ohmachi (president and one of the founders of the Esoteric Company), and mastering engineer Masaya Tohno, making this reissue of this jazz milestone an absolute collector’s item!

Esoteric's reissue of classical music masterpieces has attracted a great deal of attention worldwide.
